(ARA) - Think you have the cutest, lovable, picture-perfect pooch in the world? If so, then start snapping pictures. For the first time in its nearly 100-year history, Milk-Bone is offering dog owners across the country the chance to put their precious pooch’s face on the front of the iconic Milk-Bone Original Biscuits box as part of the Milk-Bone Make Your Dog Famous Search. "Americans have a love affair with their dogs, and what better way to showcase this than to get their picture on their favorite dog snack box,” says company spokesman David Contract. “In fact, most dog owners think their dog should be on the Milk-Bone box and now they can show us why.”
From now until August 1, 2005, dog owners can submit a photograph that conveys their dog’s photogenic appeal, cuteness and personality in one of the following categories based on their dog’s size: small - dogs under 20 lbs.; medium - dogs 20 to 50 lbs.; large - dogs 50 to 100 lbs.; and extra large - dogs over 100 lbs. Judges will whittle the pile down to the top five dogs in each category and from September 13, 2005 to October 4, 2005, Americans will pick the winning dogs at www.milk-bone.com/famous.
Unless you have a very docile and cooperative pet, getting that perfect picture of your pooch could be challenging. Experts say the keys to success are patience, timing and a willingness to take several shots of the same scene. Headshots are required for the Milk-Bone Make Your Dog Famous Search, so you may want to get down to your pet's level for the photo shoot. If you have a small dog, that may mean lying on your stomach with camera in hand. If your dog is extremely active, you may need a partner to play with the dog while you move around to capture the picture. Another idea is to hold a Milk-Bone Biscuit or Treat above the dog’s head and tell him or her to sit up and wait while someone else snaps the picture.
Once you have a great image in hand, there are three ways to enter the contest: online at www.milk-bone.com/famous; by sending a photo accompanied by an official entry form to Milk-Bone Make Your Dog Famous Search, P.O. Box 5022, Blair, NE 68009-5022; or by having your dog's photo taken at one of the 34 stops being made by Milk-Bone's Canine Cruisers that are now touring the country.
“We wanted to make it easy for people to enter their dogs into the contest so we’re sending Canine Cruisers around the country,” says Contract. “Besides entering your dog, you’ll be able to groom your dog, play games, sample Milk-Bone treats and win fantastic prizes at each Canine Cruiser stop”. In addition to getting their photos on the Milk-Bone Original Biscuits box, the four grand prize winners will receive a professional photo shoot, $250 in cash and a free one-year supply of Milk-Bone dog snacks. The semi-finalists will receive a free one-year supply of treats too, as well as a customized Milk-Bone cookie jar personalized with their dog’s photo.
