Make Your Summer Party Sizzle with French Flair

(ARA) -- Summer is the perfect time to host a party to remember, but any old backyard barbeque won’t do. That’s too predictable. Why not plan a party with French flair? Recreate Paris in your own backyard, it’s easy to do -- and a whole lot more fun! When planning the menu for your Parisian soiree, forget about hamburgers and hot dogs and instead try something a little more sophisticated. For the appetizers, serve warm breads with sliced meats and cheeses including Brie. Quiches and tarts are also good options. For the main course, peruse gourmet magazines or French cookbooks to find many unique and delicious recipe options such as salad nicoise, steamed mussels, or grilled tuna with vegetables.

No social gathering is complete without a signature cocktail. Hilton, the hotel company credited with inventing the Pina Colada (at the Caribe Hilton in Puerto Rico in 1954), has a new drink worth trying. The “Long Purple” has been described as a cocktail as chic as the hotel where it was created -- The Hilton Arc de Triomphe Paris. “The Long Purple is a mix of very different and unusual flavors to obtain an exceptional taste,” says Thierry Atger, resident mixologist at the hotel. “Our guests enjoy the cocktail at the hotel’s Purple Bar and often request the recipe so they can serve Long Purples once back at home.”

Here’s the recipe:

Vanilla vodka (1.5 ounces)

Black currant liqueur (0.75 ounces)

Pineapple juice (2 ounces)

Cranberry juice (2 ounces)

Served with red fruits in a highball glass, the drink is enjoyed for its fruity taste and fun color. “It goes with everything,” says Atger. “You can drink it fresh at any time of the day.”

Put the final touches on your party by creating an atmosphere reminiscent of 1940s Paris. Take your inspiration from the Hilton Arc de Triomphe Paris's art deco design and Purple Bar. Simply drape purple fabric over tables and accent with small tea lights and vases filled with purple lilacs and irises. Hang posters of such popular Paris tourist attractions as the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower and Champs Elysees. Finally, softly play jazz music in the background to really set the mood!
